I Was Attacked

I was innocently walking out of my front door…..and then I was attacked.

In the spring we had a robin start to build her nest on top of a wooden box, right next to our front door.  We cleared it away when she first started, hoping she would find another place…but no.  I don’t know how many times we cleared it away; she kept at it.  We placed that little fake bird up there, hoping it would scare her away.  Nope, she built her nest right around it.  Usually we have birds that nest above our door, but you’d walk out and find the egg on the porch in pieces.  That’s what we were expecting with this.  At the beginning of the week, mom and I came back from a walk and lo and behold, a little robin was sitting in there.  Usually you hear them when they are just born and they have no feathers.  But not this one.  We had no idea it was even up there!

We saw it standing in its nest, looking like it was ready to fly off…or into our house.  So we left it alone.  left it alone.  But it did not leave me alone.

On Thursday afternoon we were all leaving our house.  I was one of the last people out the door.  All of the sudden, I hear the rest of the family talking, something swoop down…..and something soft hit my neck and arm.  It screamed and I screamed.  I thought I killed it.  In its nervousness, it decided to use the bathroom, six inches away from me.  I panicked that it did it on me as well, but thankfully it did not.  Then it flew in to the garden and I grabbed my camera from my bag.

So yes, that was my “bonding” moment with a bird.

UPDATE:  After I published this post, I was standing out in the kitchen.  I look out the back door and there is my little friend. So I went outside…
